Effects of In Vitro Synergism of Mawhangyounpye-tang, a Poly-Herbal Formula and Ciprofloxacin of Quinolones against 7 Strains of Gram Positive Bacteria

Abstract
|
|
|
Objectives : In order to evaluate the in uitro synergic effect of Mawhangyounpye-tang which was a traditional poly-herbal formula has been used in the treatment of respiratory diseases in Korea, with quinolone antibiotics, ciprofloxacin(CPFX) the minimal inhibitory concentration, MICa and hlICcxi of single use of quinolones and concomitant treatment with ,mawhangyounpye-tang against 7 strains of gram positive bacteria.
Methods : Agal plate dilution methods
Results : In the case of anaerobic gram positive bacteria, the MIC, MIC_(50) and MICw against Peptostreptococcus anaerobius, Peptostreptococcus magnus, Peptostreptococcus asaccahrolyticus and Staphylococcus intermedius was significantly decreased in concomitant treated groups with dfauwhangyounpye- tang compared to those of single treated groups of CPFX, respectively. However, no significant changes were demonstrated against Propionibacteriurn ucnes, C.lostridium difficile and Clostridiwn perfrigens.
Conclusions : It is considered that the in vitro antibacterial activity of CPFX were increased against some strains of gram positive strains, especially, Staphylococcus by concomitant use of :Mawhangyounpye-tang.
